On October 1st, I severed a tendon in the middle finger on my left hand.
I documented the whole saga on Instagram, so if you want the full story, click here to go to the story highlight. The tl;dr version is that my daughter picked up a garbage bag that I knew had a can lid inside and I had a mama bear moment and grabbed the bag so she wouldn’t cut herself, and I managed to grab the bag exactly where the lid was, puncturing my hand and severing my tendon.
The following two weeks have included a horrific trip to the ER where the doc basically told me I was a wimp and sent me home, then several follow-up appointments because I knew something was very wrong, landing me here on Thanksgiving Monday, eager to get tomorrow’s surgery over with so I can start the recovery process.
I will likely do a video update and more IG stories because typing with one hand sucks and I’ll still have to do that for work, so video may just be easier for me, haha.
I also seem to be a very “when it rains it pours” kinda person, because I also got a tooth infection and I’m booked for a root canal later this week on the same day I start hand therapy. I’ve been in a haze of painkillers and antibiotics for days and I feel like I’m just resurfacing in time for tomorrow’s operation adventure.
Maybe they’ll let me IG from the OR? Probably not. But I’ll try to share soon after. I’m sure you all want to see my gross hand when it’s all done.
Also, I realize it’s been a while since I’ve updated here, so in a nutshell, here’s what I’ve got going on:
- My educational printable site is now live at fawnsense.com — resources for parents and educators with a Canadian vibe
- I’m opening a plant shop in my hometown this month. It’s called Plant Goals and it’s located in downtown Peterborough. I had planned to be open mid-October but I’ll have to give it another week-ish to allow some healing and getting back to normal — or as normal as I can with one hand. It’s all good 😉
- My media company is diving into app creation — our site is undergoing some updates right now, but you can get on the list at kitzandco.com if you want updates
I hope you guys are having a less painful October with less appointments and hassle, haha. Much love and a huge happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating this long weekend.
Cross your fingers that no one bumps my surgery tomorrow. I’ve already had it moved twice so I’m a bit desperate. Good vibes, y’all.
Peace out, friends!
