There is one item that always makes it into my carry-on. Actually, the first time I brought this particular item along, it was for a different reason, but now I never want to be caught without it.
Allow me to explain.
When I travel, especially talking about plane travel, I NEVER check a bag — it’s carry-on or bust.
Flying from Canada to just about anywhere means paying extra for checked bags, or there’s a weight limit, or my luggage is free on the way there but not the way back. There’s also my constant worry that my stuff will go missing.
Basically, I like to keep my hands on my bag and if I have to gate check, that’s fine. At least I saw it get on the plane.
What does this have to do with my must-have travel item?
Since I only ever bring a carry-on, I try not to mess around with liquids since there are set limits and I feel like I’ll be the one who has their shampoo burst open mid-flight. I buy little toiletries when I get to the hotel or just use what’s available complimentary.
More travel goodness: Why we love Viamede Resort and can’t wait to visit again.
But I do like to have face wash handy and the stuff you get in hotels is often terrible. I don’t want to be stuck somewhere with only hand soap to wash my face, so I starting bringing along disposable face wipes so I wouldn’t have to deal with transporting a liquid.
Fast forward to a flight I had into LAX on a super hot day and I was feeling totally miserable. I’d just got off the plane after 40 minutes on the tarmac and I was a sweaty mess.
I’m in the bathroom splashing my face with tepid sink water, trying to cool down. And then I remember the Burt’s Bees pink grapefruit wipes that I’d brought.
Lightbulb moment.
I hopped into a stall and basically had a sponge bath with the grapefruit wipes. And by that I meant I wiped my face and neck, but also my back, armpits, and, since we’re getting nice and personal here, my underboobage — it’s totally a word. Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
These have come in handy when I’m not travelling somewhere super hot too. Even after a long road trip or when I’m camping these are a total lifesaver.
Also: Someone finally designed a stylish travel pillow.
After this, I felt like I’d been to the dang spa. I was refreshed, I felt nice and cool, the grapefruit smelled amazing. I felt like a whole new woman and now I will never head to the airport without a pack of these babies in my suitcase.
If grapefruit isn’t really your thing (my partner hates it) Burt’s Bees has a few other options including Cucumber and Sage, White Tea Extract, and one for sensitive skin.
Happy travels!
