On Saturday, Gretchen and I attended an early screening of Missing Link and I have a feeling this movie is going to be an instant family favourite.
We had a great time at the screening, including an up close and personal meeting with Mr. Link, of course!
Here are three reasons why I think your family is going to love Missing Link too!
01. The visuals are breathtaking.
As I mentioned above, their stop motion style has made Laika stand out in a big way, by innovating the process and building on it with each film, creating truly immersive environments.
You almost have to stop and remind yourself that each movement isn’t being generated by a computer, but physically manipulated by the creators.
When I was a kid, I was SO entranced by stop motion and anything made with clay (remember those picture books from elementary school?) This takes it to a new level.
Here’s a little peek.
The Missing Link movie was adorable!! Thanks again to Elevation Pictures for inviting us out the to screening. Gretchen and I had a great time!(More in our IG stories if you're not already hanging out over there ➡️ instagram.com/sofawnedmag)

Are you loving it yet??
The film is a 95-minute visual smörgåsbord!

02. Life lessons and social commentary well done.
Without spoiling the movie, I’ll just say that the female lead is absolutely fantastic. Her energy and power, her choices throughout the movie, and her general attitude and nature = HECK YES.
I love seeing empowered female characters like this in children’s movies. She’s awesome.
You might also enjoy: Who’s She? is a beautiful game that teaches players about extraordinary women.
The overarching theme of the movie, dealing with finding your place in the world and realizing that maybe belonging somewhere you think you should belong, isn’t exactly the right choice, is beautifully portrayed. I think this theme gives kids something to think about, even if they’re a bit too young to put those thoughts into words just yet.
The story is very thoughtfully shared, which is a feat in itself when so much of the magic behind the movie stems from the visuals. It’s refreshing to see a story as carefully curated as the film itself.
03. Stephen Fry.
This movie is actually packed with incredible voice talent. Zach Galifianakis, Hugh Jackman, and Zoe Saldana head up the three starring roles… what more could you ask for?
Well, about 30 minutes into the flick, I realized that the top baddy is voiced by Stephen Fry. And later, you’ll meet Emma Thompson’s character too.
Yup, toss a few of my favourite Brits into the mix and I’m sold. Such a perfect choice!
Missing Link will be out in theatres on April 12th, 2019. I’d love to hear what you think!
