You’ve heard it a million times. You already know breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, but if you’re like me, you’re still just grabbing that cup of coffee and forgetting about the actual food part.
I’ve started to realize that even on those days when I don’t think I’m hungry first thing in the morning, it’s a lie. My body is actually craving something nutritious, not just a slam of caffeine.
Recently, I received an email from the folks at HOLOS, a Canadian company dedicated to changing the way we all think about breakfast, asking if I’d like to try out their “Super-Breakfast” overnight muesli.

I knew my breakfast game could use some improvement, so I said “you bet!” and they sent over a Tasting Kit with each of their four flavours and a jar to help perfectly measure and mix.
Here’s the deal with HOLOS:
The HOLOS “Super-Breakfast” is prepared by simply adding your preferred plant-based milk into a jar or container with a pouch of HOLOS and leaving the mixture to soak overnight. By morning, your breakfast is ready to eat and easy to digest, as the ancient method of soaking oats, nuts and seeds makes their nutrients more assimilable.
This stuff is SUPER filling. Usually, even if I do have something for breakfast, I’m feeling snacky just a couple hours later, but when I have a HOLOS breakfast, that’s all I need until lunch.
There’s just so much goodness packed into those little servings. It doesn’t seem like a lot of food, but wow. It’s powerful.
There are four different flavours of HOLOS breakfast — Vanilla, Peanuts + Maple, Cocoa, and Chai. My top picks are the Peanuts + Maple and the Chai.

You can customize your breakfast with toppings. So far my favourite things to add are Balkan yogourt and figs (cut up and quartered).
Each pouch contains:
- 20g of plant-based protein
- 12g of fibre
- 15 vitamins and minerals
- 2g of omega-3
- 1 billion probiotic CFUs (colony forming units)
In a nutshell, ALL THE GOOD STUFF.
Their formula is also organic, gluten free, dairy free, and vegan, making this a great option for people with a variety of dietary needs.
You can order HOLOS right from their website as a one-time shipment or you can save 8% when you choose a monthly subscription. Depending on how many you buy, the cost per pack ranges from $4.41 to $5.42. You can order a Tasting Kit for $30 CAD to try out the flavours and find out what you like and it comes with the HOLOS jar as well.
Here’s how the pricing shakes out for the 12, 24, and 48 count boxes:
- One-time purchase: 12 = $65, 24 = $120, 48 = $230
- Monthly subscription: 12 = $59.80, 24 = $110.40, 48 = $211.60
At first, I felt like this was kind of expensive, so I started to compare it to other things I might grab for a breakfast on the go.
I used to be into Tim Horton’s and McDonald’s breakfasts, which run around $6 for a meal. If I spent $6 on 12 of these breakfasts, that’s $72 a month. Already much more than the 12 count box, whether you buy as a one-time purchase or in a subscription.
At 24/month, my fast food breakfast would be $144 and at 48/month (perfect for couples) you’re looking at $288 — not to mention the obvious fact that a fast food breakfast doesn’t do a damn thing to get me the vitamins and all the nutrients hanging out in a HOLOS breakfast.
The price might feel like more than you’re used to spending, but if you said goodbye to a crummy takeout breakfast in it’s place, or if this is the thing that helps you to get a quick and easy nutritious meal in your belly each morning, this is by far the better option.
Are there less expensive breakfasts you can make for yourself? Of course. But man, this is easy and delicious. And if you’re looking for more good food in your diet and less time making it, this might just be right for you.

Did I mention how easy is it to make, by the way?
To prep, all you have to do is add your favourite dairy-free milk (I’ve been using almond milk), shake it (the container doesn’t leak at all, trust me I put it to the test!), and pop it in your fridge for the night. In the morning, stir and enjoy, or pop it in your bag and take it to go.
Kudos to the team behind Canadian-made HOLOS for making this a reality. Breakfast totally needs a makeover, and this is exactly what they’ve accomplished. Yum!
