One of my goals for 2019 is to learn how to cook more Asian food at home. I’ve been diving into Japanese cuisine and I’d love to make Chinese dumplings one day. The other night we made California rolls (ok, not very authentic, but it’s a start) and I have been stocking my pantry with essentials like sesame oil, tamari, and furikake.
What I’m really obsessed with right now, is cold tofu. Which, let’s be honest, is the easiest thing in the world to cook because you’re not actually cooking anything.
Tofu + toppings + sauce = YUM.
Since this is something that’s totally rocking my world right now, I wanted to share some inspiration for you guys to try out too!

Some of my favourite things to eat with my cold tofu include:
- furikake (I love the ebi kind that I linked above)
- dried seaweed with sesame seeds
- a mix of sesame oil, tamari, and some fresh ginger paste (or from a jar is totally cool, but not powder)
- green onions
I’ve been making this with a few different kinds of tofu as well — you can try semi-firm or soft if you like that texture. Most recipes don’t call for firm, but if that’s your game, I don’t think anyone will mind. Just enjoy!
If you have any favourite toppings for cold tofu, please let me know! My fridge is overflowing with bricks of tofu and I’m ready to experiment!
